Today, Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen’s Birth Anniversary became even more meaningful for the Armed Forces of Bhutan as they came together for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The Royal Bhutan Army, Royal Body Guards and Royal Bhutan Police united to make an offering of Nu 20,188,477/- (twenty million one hundred eighty-eight thousand four hundred seventy-seven ngultrum) towards one chorten under Project 108.
At a glance, it may seem like an institutional contribution.
However, behind this gesture are thousands of enthusiastic individuals. They comprise personnels and officers standing watch in a remote outpost through the cold of winter, those ensuring the safety of our communities and roads, engineer building critical infrastructure in some of the most challenging terrains. The personnel who answer the nation’s call in times of disaster and need. The officers who lead from the front and the recruits who quietly dedicate themselves to a life of service.
Different uniforms. Different responsibilities. One shared commitment of “service before self”.
For generations, the Armed Forces have stood as guardians of our peace, security and sovereignty. Their work is often unseen, their sacrifices rarely spoken of, yet their presence has always been felt in the strength, stability and resilience of our nation.
Today, that same spirit of service finds expression in a different way.
Through this offering, the Armed Forces are joining a collective act of faith, purpose and aspiration. They are helping build a symbol that will stand for generations as a reminder of what is possible when people come together in service of something greater than themselves.
Project 108 is a symbols of collective aspiration, built not by a few, but by many; not for an individual, but for all.
Note: “Hearts of 108” is a series dedicated to the hearts behind Project 108. Every contribution, whether through labour, resources, prayers or support, becomes part of a shared act of merit. Because Project 108 was never meant to be about concrete, stone or numbers. At its heart, it is about people.
