Building a Strong Police Service
Royal Bhutan Police
The Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) was officially established on 1st September 1965 by His Majesty the Third Druk Gyalpo, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, with a strength of 555 personnel transferred from the Royal Bhutan Army. It has since evolved into an independent organisation dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and public order. This date is celebrated annually as Police Raising Day in Bhutan.
Over the years, the RBP has developed alongside Bhutan’s modernisation, embracing technological advancements, community policing strategies, crime prevention, traffic management, cybercrime investigations, and border security, all while upholding the values of discipline, integrity, and service to the nation.
Major General Chimi Dorji (DNY) is the Chief of Police, having been promoted to his current rank by His Majesty The King on 5th March 2020.
Guided by His Majesty the King’s vision, the Royal Bhutan Police continue to adapt and innovate, ensuring a safe and harmonious society for all Bhutanese citizens.
