Handing Over of Firefighting Equipment from the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland to the Royal Bhutan Police
On 16/10/2025, His Excellency, Mario Fehr, Minister of the Department of Security and Head of the Board of the Building Insurance Company of the Canton of Zurich, together with Mr. Lars Mulli, Director, formally handed over ten three-tiered extension ladders to the Fire and Rescue Service Division, Royal Bhutan Police.
The official handing and taking-over ceremony was graced by His Excellency Mr. Mario Fehr, and Officiating Deputy Chief of Police, Special Police Department. The delegation also conducted a practical demonstration for firefighters on the proper usage and maintenance of the equipment.
Subsequently, the delegates paid a courtesy call on the Chief of Police, during which discussions were held on the ongoing Road Safety and Capacity Building Project, the Fire Safety Project, and prospective areas of collaboration, including the establishment of a volunteer fire brigade in Bhutan.
The Chief of Police conveyed his deep appreciation to the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland, for its longstanding partnership and invaluable contributions to strengthening public safety and emergency preparedness. Since 2015, the Canton of Zurich has supported the Royal Bhutan Police- amounting to Nu. 29.12 million- through training initiatives and provision of equipment, thereby enhancing both firefighting and traffic management capacities in Bhutan.
The delegation also visited Chamgang FRSD Container Training Facility, where FRSD personnel conducted demonstrations of container fire and fire pump drills.
These noble contributions will greatly strengthen the fire and emergency response capabilities and traffic management systems of the Royal Bhutan Police, reaffirming the spirit of friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and the Canton of Zurich, Switzerland.
