Key Responsibilities

  1. Traffic Law Enforcement  This department implements and enforces the Road Safety and Transport Act.
  2. Accident Investigation and Reporting – Investigates road accidents, compiles reports, and offers recommendations for enhancing traffic safety.
  3. Road Safety Awareness – The department conducts awareness campaigns on responsible driving and pedestrian safety in collaboration with schools, communities, and relevant stakeholders.
  4. Traffic Management – Regulates traffic flow in urban areas, especially in high-density zones, and supervises traffic during national events, VIP movements, and emergencies.
  5. Crash Data Management –  Collects and analyses road accident data to improve road safety measures. The division collaborates with agencies like the Bhutan Construction and Transport Authority (BCTA) to integrate data and make policy recommendations.
  6. Collaboration with Stakeholders – Engages with the Bhutan Constructio and Transport Authority (BCTA), local authorities, and various agencies to improve road infrastructure and signage.

The Traffic Division continues to enhance its efficiency by incorporating digital tools such as speed cameras, CCTV surveillance, and traffic violation monitoring systems to improve road safety and compliance throughout Bhutan.
