Tourist’s Lost Wallet Returned
In an exemplary display of honesty and integrity, Lam Phub Dorji, also known as Lam Babu of Paro Dratshang, returned a lost wallet containing cash in multiple currencies and personal belongings to its rightful owner.
On March 30, 2025, Lam Babu found the wallet in a taxi and, without hesitation, took steps to ensure it was returned. The wallet contained:
• $411 U.S. dollars (in various denominations)
• 50 Cuban dollars
• Nu. 2315 Bhutanese currency (in various denominations)
The owner was identified as Mr. John Michael Stelling, an American tourist who had misplaced the wallet while traveling in a taxi from Paro town to his hotel.
Following proper verification, the recovered wallet and its contents were returned to Mr. Stelling, who expressed his deep gratitude. In a heartfelt message, he commended the honesty and generosity of the Bhutanese people, highlighting this act as a testament to the values upheld in Bhutanese society.
