RBP FOILS MAJOR DRUG SMUGGLING ATTEMPT AT PHUENTSHOLING BORDER

On May 28, 2025 at 0025 hours, the Royal Bhutan Police (RBP) patrolling team in Phuentsholing intercepted a 33-year-old male near the Sewerage Tank BMP border wall. The suspect was found carrying a large consignment of controlled substances—24,867 SP+ capsules and 109 N10 tablets—wrapped in 35 plastic bags.

The patrolling team was alerted by the CCTV control room operator, who observed the suspect alighting from a vehicle on the Indian side of the border near the Sewerage Tank BMP. The suspect, a resident across the border, is an ex-convict who was released in January 2023 after serving a six-year prison sentence for a similar offense.

According to the suspect, the consignment was intended for delivery to an individual in Thimphu, a car broker based in Olakha. Acting on this lead, the Narcotic Drugs and Other Vices Division (NDOVD) team raided the suspect’s apartment and seized an additional 2,500 SP+ capsules, 440 N10 tablets, and a significant amount of cash.
