Inauguration and Handover of ICP Gasharibaley Strengthens Border Management in Eastern Bhutan

In a significant step towards enhancing border security and management, the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Gasharibaley, Nganglam, located 7 km along the Gyalposhing–Nganglam highway, was formally inaugurated and handed over today to the Integrated Check Post Management Division (ICPMD) under the Nganglam ICP Unit by the Department of Law and Order, Ministry of Home Affairs.

The establishment of ICP Gasharibaley comes under the visionary directives of the Royal Government of Bhutan. Nganglam, a pivotal border town in Pemagatshel Dzongkhag adjoining the Indian districts of Baksa and Bajali in Assam, had hitherto lacked an inland ICP, despite witnessing a steady inflow of people and vehicles.

The Gyalposhing–Nganglam highway serves as a vital lifeline connecting five eastern districts such as Pemagatshel, Mongar, Lhuentse, Trashigang, and Trashiyangtse. The operationalization of ICP Gasharibaley at this strategic location marks a milestone in strengthening border governance, ensuring enhanced security, and facilitating meticulous monitoring of the movement of people and goods.

With its formal inauguration and handover, ICP Gasharibaley is now fully operational, and will deliver robust border management, heightened security surveillance, and effective implementation of the mandates of Immigration, the Bhutan Food and Drugs Authority (BFDA), Customs, and the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS). This milestone underscores the Royal Government’s unwavering commitment to securing the nation’s borders while facilitating smooth cross-border trade and movement.
