The FRSD shall establish fire stations and units across various Dzongkhags and Thromdes. The firefighting engines, fire safety systems, and equipment for search and rescue services shall be acquired by the respective Dzongkhags, Dungkhags, and Thromdes, and subsequently handed over to the respective police stations for management and operation by the fire and rescue service units. This division shall consist of the following units:
Prevention and Inspectorate Unit
- Conduct a sensitisation and awareness programme to prevent fire accidents.
- Examine buildings, facilities, and public structures to identify fire hazards and ensure fire safety; and
- Provide training on firefighting and disaster mitigation.
Fire Operations and Rescue Unit
- Rescue and evacuate the casualties;
- Conduct rescue and evacuation operations during natural disasters;
- Assist in the investigation of fire incidents and provide expert opinion on the cause of fire;
- Train and periodically update firefighting personnel; and
- Maintain accurate records and data on fire incidents.
Fire Engineering and Workshop Unit
- Install, inspect, and maintain fire equipment, alarms, and hydrants.
- Repair and maintenance of all fire vehicles; and
Keep a maintenance log for the fire equipment, alarms, vehicles, and hydrants.
Disaster Communication Helpline Unit
- Collect and respond to disaster-related distress calls.
- Mobilise resources for rescue operations.
- Coordinate and execute disaster management operations; and
Coordinate with the appropriate agencies regarding disaster-related issues.
