Chief of Police, Royal Bhutan Police, attends the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit in New York

Brigadier Phub Gyaltshen, Chief of Police of the Royal Bhutan Police, attended the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from 7 to 8 July 2026.

The Summit brought together Heads of Police from UN Member States contributing to United Nations peacekeeping operations. It provided a platform for discussions on the future of United Nations policing, innovation and new technologies in policing, and the strengthening of international cooperation to address transnational challenges.

Ahead of the Summit, Brigadier Phub Gyaltshen held separate bilateral meetings at the United Nations Headquarters with HE. Mr Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support (DOS); H.E.

Mr Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations (DPO); and Mr Faisal Shahkar, United Nations Police Adviser.

During the meetings, Brigadier Phub Gyaltshen reiterated Bhutan’s abiding commitment to contribute towards the maintenance of international peace and security as envisioned by His Majesty The King.

The Under-Secretaries-General and the Police Adviser conveyed their appreciation to Bhutan’s contributions to international peacekeeping and commended the exemplary conduct of Bhutanese officers and personnel in various missions.
